– summary for Monday 15 August to Sunday 21 August 2016

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 12 August and could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M55 D’Urton Lane bridge repairs
Work to repair this bridge – which crosses the M55 between junction 1 and the interchange with the M6 (M6 junction 32) will get underway on Monday (15 August). Overnight carriageway closures will take place from 9pm to 6am each night with the eastbound carriageway closed overnight on Monday 15, Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 August and westbound closures on Monday 22, Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24th August. Clearly signed diversion routes will be in place during the closures

M56 Weaver Viaduct repairs and resurfacing
Work starts on Monday (15 August) on a £1.5 million 8 week project to repair and resurface Weaver Viaduct which helps carry the M56 between junction 12 and junction 14. The work involves overnight lane and hard shoulder closures – with a handful of overnight carriageway closures in late September and October.

M6 junctions 16 to 19: Cheshire smart motorway
Work is underway for the smart motorway upgrade – typically with 1 or 2 lanes closed overnight between junctions in both directions and/or mobile lane closures along short sections of carriageway. More information about the project is available on the project website: http://www.highways.gov.uk/roads/roa...mart-motorway/

M6 junction 34 Lancaster
Lancashire County Council work off the motorway on the Heysham Link project requires a lane 1 and hard shoulder closure in both directions on the motorway around junction 34. The northbound exit slip road will be closed overnight on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights (17, 18 and 19 August) with the southbound entry slip road closed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights (18, 19 and 20 August). A full closure of the motorway in both directions between junctions 33 and 34 will take place on Friday and Saturday nights (19 and 20 August). All the closures will take place between 8pm and 6am. More information is available here: http://heyshamlink.lancashire.gov.uk

M6 junction 39 Shap to 38 Tebay
A combination of resurfacing, bridge joint replacement and fencing renewal will be taking place on the M6 southbound from 14 August for approx. 7 weeks. This will involve a temporary 50mph speed limit for the duration of the works along with varying closures on a 24hr basis which will, at times, affect the slip roads into the service area.
Most of the work – between 8pm and 6am at night - will be done with lane closures but some slip roads will need to be closed. On Friday (19 August) the southbound exit slip road at junction 38 will be closed for 3 nights.

M60 junction 8 Sale to junction 20 Rochdale
A major scheme is taking place to cut congestion and improve journey times on parts of the M60 and the M62 in Greater Manchester. The scheme involves overnight slip road and carriageway closures with a 50mph limit in place for the safety of workers and drivers. A significant programme of temporary night closures has been programmed to fit gantries with wiring and signs, which will take the project to May 2017. These are detailed on the journey impact tab of the project page and updated weekly, subject to weather conditions. See the project page for details: http://www.highways.gov.uk/roads/roa...62-junction-20
The project is due to be completed in autumn 2017.

M67/A57
We are carrying out routine ground investigation works around St Anne’s Road bridge. This work will focus along the A57 Manchester Road on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (15, 16 and 17 August) between 8am and 4.30pm with temporary three-way traffic lights in place.

A556 Knutsford to Bowdon
A £192 million project is being carried out to create a new dual carriageway linking the M56 to the M6 in Cheshire. The exit slip road from the M56 at junction 7 is now closed for up to 4 months for work to provide new link roads and a new roundabout at the junction is completed. The A50 where it is due to cross the new A556 (using a new road bridge) now has temporary traffic lights in place as work begins to realign the A50 onto the new bridge. More information is available on the project website: http://www.highways.gov.uk/roads/roa...on-Improvement

A56 Rising Bridge roundabout
Work has started to improve safety and reduce delays at Rising Bridge Roundabout near Haslingden. Work will be carried out daily between 8pm and 6am, and will involve single lane closures on the A56 and Rising Bridge roundabout. Some full carriageway closures will be needed, during which times fully signed diversion routes will be in place. Overnight roundabout closures are scheduled to take place on successive Sunday nights on Sunday 14 and 21 August. A further overnight closure is scheduled to take place on Sunday 4 September. The work is expected to finish in mid-September.

A590 Red Syke bridge to Swarthmoor
A £590,000 overnight resurfacing scheme got underway on Monday 8 August and is expected to take up to 5 weeks with temporary traffic lights in place overnight. Temporary traffic lights are also now in place between 9.30am and 3.30pm Monday to Thursday (inclusive) for around 3 weeks for repairs to gullies along this same stretch. A temporary 40mph speed limit will be in place during the works and a 10mph limit will operate whilst convoy work is being undertaken.

A590 Ulverston
Overnight traffic signals will be in place on some Saturday nights (10pm to 10am) from 13 August into October whilst painting work is being undertaken to the bridges at Red Syke and Dykelands.

The works involves overnight carriageway closures between 8pm and 5am (7am at weekends). Full closures will be required and signed diversion routes will be in place. The work is expected to be completed in mid-August.

A66 Bassenthwaite Lake
Overnight work to resurface a section of the eastbound carriageway began on Monday 8 August with overnight closures of the carriageway – between 8pm and 6am each night – for up to 4 weeks. Signed diversion routes will be in place with cars leaving the A66 at Papcastle and rejoining the A66 via the A595 to Bothel and A591 at Keswick. HGVs will need to use the A595 and then travel to the M6 at junction 44. A lane closure will be in place during the day. No work will take place over the August bank holiday weekend.
